Dr Chris’ Monthly Blog - March 2010

Snowdrops and warm days surround us and the freezing nights are getting shorter. Therefore I feel happier as spring is appearing!

You may have read in the Free Press that the Denbighshire council tax has gone up by 2.5%. This is the joint lowest in Wales and although higher than in English councils, we started from a lower charge.

This means in Llanarmon-yn-Iâl that the cost per year is;
Band C £903.61
Band D 1016.57
Band E 1242.47
Band F 1468.37
Band G 1694.28.
I hope no one pays more than that! This includes a community and town council average increase of 4.25% (although ours in Llanarmon is unchanged) and a Police Authority increase of 2.99%. Our tax is the same as Llandegla and slightly higher than Llanferres and Llanbedr DC.

The rest of the time in the last month I have been dealing with homelessness problems, fixing council house rents and other charges.

As you are aware our village post office has closed BUT the Community council along with the local AM Darren Miller and MP David Jones are in consultation with PO bosses in Cardiff, about the great need we have for a post office service, given the size of the village and the large elderly population which finds travel difficult. So hopefully it will be able to be reopened in the shop, which Nia would prefer, with someone else running it. If not may be in The Raven Inn. Remember our wonderful shop is open long hours and Nia needs your support.

The Raven Inn has done some stunning events such as; Burns’ night, Valentine’s day and St David’s Day luncheon with the latter to musical accompaniment from Ruth’s local choir, which has most of the village in it! We are getting better and just about managed with 4 part harmony. There are more events in the Raven Inn coming like Mothering Sunday, next weekend. I love the table decorations, the ambience and the food is wonderful. Thanks to all who work so hard and give us a wonderful village pub.

The Youth club are planning trips to Snowdon in May, camping at Gelli Gynan in June plus canoeing, photography, abseiling, the latter three to be arranged, so keep coming.

Regards Christine
