Dr Chris’ Monthly Blog - February 2010

The first week of the snow over the festive season was fun, the second a little tedious and by the third week I/we had all had enough. I was also without water for 10 days, the pipe was frozen under Llandegla road. Some lovely men from Dwr Cymru came at 12midnight and dug holes all over the place. The following morning I had a half hour wallow in the bath, Bliss. I know I was not alone being without water and some people had no gas or were stuck at home. I think there was a good community spirit and help was given to clear paths and estates. I hope you all coped. Next year the community council needs some contingency plans for getting extra salt before the bad weather sets in so we keep the smaller roads open. The gritters, the postman and the shop did a good job keeping us in contact with the world and moving AND of course we had the wonderful pub so we did not run out of booze or company. It was also great to have an extra week’s holiday as all my council meetings and my speed awareness course were cancelled, but it has been ridiculously busy since.

The Youth Club is going well and we kept it open for the Llanarmon kids to come to during the bad weather. The mobile youth centre has returned, so we had a good attendance last Wednesday 27th january and the mobile will come for the next 3 weeks same time 6.30 to 8.30pm in ‘The Raven’ car park.  I am also arranging a Youth Club trip to Snowdonia in early May for 15 youths and 6 adults. This will be discussed at the next meeting on the 3rd february. Also we have some good ideas for other things to do such as photography, cycling, abseiling and fishing, the last ones when the weather improves.

I have also been busy with Sexual Health Task and Finish groups and Homelesseness meetings at Denbighshire County Council. The Community Health Council (which watches your interests in the health service) is being emasculated. The DCC work force is being pruned to cut our costs so there is a air of overwork and nervousness in County Hall and all around the county. Who is next they wonder? The number of county councillors will be cut as well down to 40 so we will have to work harder or at least my successor will. It is nearly 2 years since I became councillor and 4 years will be more than enough for me.

Soon as the days get longer we will all become more cheerful. I have enjoyed the singing in the village choir, not only meeting new people but actually learning to sing in tune again, thanks to Ruth. I have also loved going to various places to hear her sing like Mozart in Chester Cathedral, my it was cold but it has kept my spirits up!

Regards Christine.

PS it is snowing again as I write this!
