Message from Cllr Martyn Holland
On October the 27th I met with our AM Darren Millar and the Senior Civil Servant with responsibility for the Trunk Roads Agency which in Wales is part of Welsh Government.
We had a site meeting to look at the issues that I had raised on your behalf regarding the speed of vehicles on the A494 through Loggerheads and the number of accidents on that stretch of road.
I have today been copied in with a letter from Ken Skates the Welsh Minister responsible for the Trunk Roads in which he has made the following commitments.
1) To replace the amber flashing signs as you approach the entrance to Colomendy School. These have not worked for some time.
2) To install new flashing speed limit signs which I believe will also report not only the speed limit but also the speed each vehicle is doing. These should have a big impact on those cars exceeding the speed limit.
3) To prepare the ground for statutory notices for the extension of the 40 limit westwards towards the Tafarn Y Gelyn junction. This is a fast stretch of road and by moving the speed limit further west it would ensure that cars reduce their speed well before they arrive at the Loggerheads Garage.
I had pressed for a 30 limit but sadly the minister has not agreed to that on this occasion but I feel that the new flashing speed limit signs, the school flashing signs and the extension of the 40 limit towards Tafarn Y Gelyn is a major move in the right direction and I am grateful to Darren Miller for his support and for arranging the site meeting.
We also looked at extending the double white lines from the Clwyd Gate to the first turning for Llanarmon Yn Ial and improving the visibility at that junction. The visibility improvements will be undertaken and a further review of the double white lines is underway. They will also review the area by the Clwyd Gate where walkers cross the road on the Offas Dyke footpath. This straddles our ward and the neighbouring Llanbedr ward.
Finally the good news is that the works in Loggerheads will be under taken in this financial year.
