Marine litter poses a growing threat to our aquatic and coastal environment. Up to 12.7m tonnes of plastic enters the world’s oceans every year, with some scientists predicting that by 2050, the quantity of plastics in the oceans will weigh more than the fish.
Keep Wales Tidy is proud to be a member of the Wales Clean Seas Partnership, working with Welsh Government and organisations across all sectors to tackle marine litter, develop sustainable solutions and support the delivery of the Marine Litter Action Plan for Wales.
We’ve pledged to turn the tide on plastic through practical action, education and campaigns – including coordinating the All Wales Beach Clean.
The All Wales Beach Clean is a brand-new and ambitious campaign taking place from 14-30 September.
We want to show the rest of the world that Wales is rising to the challenge of tackling marine pollution. Working with partners including the Marine Conservation Society and National Trust, we’re aiming to clean up every public beach in Wales.
Community groups, schools and businesses will be joining the two weeks of action, with our local project officers on hand to support events and supply litter picking equipment where necessary. Clean up activities will run simultaneously with a public awareness and press campaign.
We are all responsible for the health of our oceans and we would love to have your support with the All Wales Beach Clean.
It would be great if you could help us to engage your local community in taking action.
The All Wales Beach Clean is being supported and sponsored by McDonald’s restaurants throughout Wales. The campaign has also received funding via the Regional Tourism Engagement Fund (RTEF) supported through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the Welsh Government.
Downloadable resources will be available on our website to help promote the campaign. Visit http://www.keepwalestidy.cymru for more information.
Please respond to our All Wales Beach Clean team at [email protected] indicating your willingness to engage in the campaign and who we should liaise with within your authority.
Together we can make a real and lasting difference to our marine environment.
