Saturday 2nd June 2018
Start Time: 10:15
Finish Time: 14:00
Location: Brymbo Heritage Centre
LDCS has organised a visit to Brymbo Heritage Centre on June 2nd 2018. There is no cost to members but the society will make a donation to the heritage centre for their efforts in accommodating us. The arrangement is that those wishing to come should be at Llanarmon bus stop for 10:15 on the day where hopefully there will be enough cars to share lifts. The centre is just off Phoenix Drive LL11 5BT if you want to make your own way. The visit itself should last about an hour and a half and promises to be very informative. We will be taken round by a guide who is a former worker at the site but with knowledge of the history and pre-history. The area is significant for numerous reasons:
The modern steelworks that closed only in the late eighties
The older industrial heritage of in particular John “iron mad” Wilkinson
Several old railway lines some of the features of which are still visible
Bronze age remains
Spectacular fossils on display from 300 million years ago.
There is also a café next to the site which we are informed will be open after the visit if you wish to visit it.
