The house was owned by the Ladies of Llangollen, two upper-class Anglo-Irish women, who entertained famous people like Wordsworth and the Duke of Wellington.
The gardens are interesting with many features. It has a circle of stones used at the Llangollen National Eisteddfod in 1908 and a font from Valle Crucis Abbey. There is an attractive riverside walk.
